With the success of the Ann Arbor Citizens Police, Fire, and Courts Academy, City staff decided to launch the Ann Arbor Community Academy (A2CA) as a sister academy. A2CA provides a broader view of local government for Ann Arbor residents and deepens participants' understanding of governmental functions and services.
2024 Ann Arbor Community Academy
The Ann Arbor Community Academy is back for 2024! This year we will be conducting a 8-week hybrid program through April and May. Every Wednesday we will be hosting either an in-person or online session from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. During these weekly sessions, participants will connect with City staff and officials to discover what goes into both long-term planning and day-to-day operations throughout Ann Arbor.
In addition, on a select few Tuesday's we will be conducting optional in person tours at several of our facilities around the City, such as the Fire Station and the Wheeler Center. Those who would like to participate in the in-person tours are required to sign up prior to the tour date. These in-person tours will be limited to a small number of people who sign up for the tour on a first-come, first-served basis. The facilities have the right to cancel the tour in the interest of public health or other emergency circumstances.
City staff hopes participants will be motivated to play a more active role in shaping the future of Ann Arbor after participating in the A2CA. Many graduates from this program have gone on to serve the community by participating in City Council, Municipal Water System Advisory Council, City Planning Commission, Ann Arbor Public Art Commission, or working as an Election Inspector.

In accordance with the City of Ann Arbor's Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) initiative, the Ann Arbor Citizens Academy has been renamed the Ann Arbor Community Academy (A2CA). This change better reflects the City's commitment to foster equity, openness, and transparency in our program.
