 Swim Lesson Descriptions 

 

American Red Cross
Swimming Lessons

Group and private swim lessons are available at all City of Ann Arbor swimming facilities. Group lessons are offered for children from the age of 6 months up through adult beginners. Class size is limited. You will be notified if a class is full and placed on a wait list. Ability requirements must be honored unless prior instructor approval is granted. Registration will be accepted for any instructional swim class at any of the City Pools during any public swim time or by mail, utilizing the registration form, or you can register online.

Course Fees / Resident discount:

Levels 1, 2, 3 & Parent and Child: $55 / $45 

Levels 4, 5, 6 & Adult: $70 / $55

Class Descriptions:

Parent & Child
Helps young children (6 months - 5 years) become comfortable in and around the water so they are ready to learn how to swim. All Parent and Child classes are 30 minutes.

Level One
Introduction to water skills. This class is for those children that are ready to be in the pool without a parent or guardian. All Level One classes are 30 minutes.

Level Two
Fundamental Aquatic Skills - for those who can fully submerge face, blow bubbles, and do assisted floats. All Level Two classes are 30 minutes.

Level Three
Stroke Development - for those swimmers who can fully submerge their head, flutter kick on their back and front with arm action, and can float on own. All Level Three classes are 30 minutes.

Level Four
Stroke Improvement - for those who have coordinated front and back crawls with rotary breathing, know how to butterfly kick and basic butterfly body motion. All Level Four classes are 45 minutes

Level Five
Stroke Refinement - for those who have coordinated front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, butterfly, and elementary back stroke. All Level Five classes are 45 minutes.

Level Six
Personal water safety/ lifeguard readiness/ fitness swimmer – a combination of the activities that you can do in the water after you have become a proficient swimmer. All Level Six classes are 45 minutes.

Adult
13 and older – Classes are geared for beginner to intermediate swimmers. All Adult classes are 30 minutes.

 

Private Swim Instruction

Individual swim instruction for age 3 years to adult is offered according to the following schedule. Please register at the pool facility where the private lesson will be held. Please call the pool to find out dates and times available; space is very limited. Private lessons are only held during our group lessons.

Fee: Half hour $18.00/$15.00 resident discount

Fuller Park Pool
Saturdays, noon-1:00 pm, June 17-August 5
Weekdays, noon-1:00 pm, August 7-17

Mack Pool
Weekdays, 10:30, 11:00 or 12:30, June 19- July 27

Veterans Memorial Park
Tuesday & Thursdays, noon-1:00 pm, July 4 - August 27
Monday - Thursday noon-1:00 pm, June 19 - June 29

Buhr Park
Monday & Wednesdays, noon-1:00 pm, July 3- July 26
Saturdays, noon-1:00 pm, June 17 - Aug 5
Mon - Thur, noon-1:00 pm, June 19 - June 29

Note: Additional times may be available for private swim instruction. Contact each pool facility for more information.
