 Applications and Forms

Permits

Permits are obtained by submitting an appropriate application form together with two copies of plans (PDF) for the proposed work.  Applications are reviewed for compliance with code and safety requirements. Some applications require supporting documentation.

Many of our applications and registration forms are available to download below. You may also request an application by fax or mail. At this time, applications cannot be submitted online.

Applications may be submitted:

  • In person at the Permit Desk at Larcom City Hall, 301 E. Huron Street, Ann Arbor, MI 48104 during regular business hours
  • Mailed to "Building Permit Desk, P.O. Box 8647, Ann Arbor, MI 48107-8647"
  • Faxed to (734) 994-8460
  • NO EMAIL APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

PLEASE NOTE:  Any faxed applications MUST BE ACCOMPANIED by a payment cover sheet (below) in order to process your permit or application. Any application received without payment information cannot be processed.

Permits cannot be issued until they are paid for. For your convenience, we accept MasterCard, VISA, Discover, checks, money orders and cash.

Fees are based on the actual work being performed.
Homeowners are eligible to obtain permits by filing an affidavit affirming they are doing the work themselves and providing their driver's license or state I.D. to copy for verification purposes.

Homeowners of rental properties are required to have licensed contractors perform all work and obtain and final all permits for all work on any rental unit.  Rental property owners may pull permits and perform the following duties as a homeowner without having to hire contractors:
  1. Reshingling of the roof
  2. Replacing entry doors or windows if the replacement is a one for one (same size) replacement and there is no change in the opening.
  3. Remove and replacement or installation of siding.

The following affidavits and instructions must accompany permits where applicable:

  • Energy worksheet
  • Home Owner Affidavit  & D.L. or State I.D. (where owner applies for permit)
  • Insurance Requirements
  • Investigation into House Relocation
  • Reclamation of Usable Materials (where a house is proposed for demolition)
