 Current Land Use

Project Summary:

During the Summer of 2000, the City of Ann Arbor Planning Department conducted a comprehensive land use inventory of all land within the City of Ann Arbor (including all Township Islands within the City's boundaries).  Data was collected through a visual survey of all parcels, using aerial photographs overlaid with parcel maps as a guide.  Parcels were assigned 1 of 46 land use codes and 1 of 3 administrative ownership codes.  Additional information from the City Assessor's office and the City Housing Bureau was used to help identify administrative ownership and distinguish various residential land uses.  The data was then entered as a layer in the City's Geographic Information System (GIS).  This GIS layer combines the descriptive land use and administrative ownership data with the spatial features of a parcel map and is assisting the City of Ann Arbor in future land use planning.

It is the desire that another land use survey of this type will be done in 2009 as part of the Master Plan updates.
