 Adopt-A-Park

The City of Ann Arbor owns over 2000 acres of park land at 162 parks.  We've had thousands of volunteers help to improve these areas - we would love your help in caring for all of these parks.

Regional parks like Veterans Memorial Park and neighborhood parks like Baxter, Churchill Downs, and Scheffler need neighbors and park users to take up their cause.  Park Adopters have been planting and maintaining flower beds; maintaining the trails and paths; painting and caring for park structures; cleaning up litter; planting, mulching, and watering trees; and generally making sure the park is in order. The activities you can choose to do in your favorite park is primarily limited only by the needs of the park and your interest!

For more information about Adopt-A-Park, contact the Adopt-A-Park Coordinator by email Adopt-A-Park or call 734.996.3266.

The first Adopt-A-Park workday was at Wellington Park - what a great neighborhood!!!

Adopt-A-Park Autumn 2008 Recap

A huge thank you to all the dedicated Adopt-A-Park volunteers who were out in the rain, sleet, freezing rain, and snow making a difference in their parks this season!

Here’s a glance at what we’ve been up to:

Neighbors of Beckley Park of all ages came out to plant trees in the first snow of the year!

The ambitious neighbors of Brookside Park completed the tree planting and grass seeding, but still weren’t ready to call it a day.  After the planned work was finished they discovered some brush to remove and got right to work on it!

The Sisters of Phi Rho Alpha spent the afternoon practicing their lumberjack skills at Burns Park.  With every shout of “timber” the pile of brush got bigger and bigger!

Neighbors of Kilburn Park planted two beautiful flower beds and a small tree, but they’re not done yet!  They plan to plant several more trees and some more bulbs this year.

The neighbors of Lawton Park wouldn’t let anything stop them!  In a morning of cold, wet weather and a U of M game tempting them home, these folks were out planting ten trees and placing woodchips around already established trees.

The ladies of Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority offered to help us out in any park that needed it!  They did a great job of weeding at Broadway park.
