Fiscal Year 2009 Budget

This site is provided to share information on the City of Ann Arbor’s plans for budgeting and funding Fiscal Year 2009 municipal services. Updates, additional information, news releases and presentations will be posted to this Web page throughout the process, as they become available.

During their annual retreat on Dec. 1, 2007, City Council reviewed staff’s outlook for FY 2009. They discussed the status of the economic and political environment, the health of the city organization, and identified priorities for the upcoming year.

Council acknowledged and complimented staff for the numerous actions that have been taken to maintain the city’s financial health. They also reconfirmed the strategy of “Sustaining Our Future”, as illustrated in the City Council Retreat Presentation (PDF).

FY 2009 is the second year in our two-year plan, and at this time, staff anticipates the plan to remain as-is without additional budget reductions or service impacts. The only item not previously planned for is a $250,000 request for funding integrated human services.

Council also identified seven key categories as areas of focus for staff over the next year-and-a-half. Council requested for staff to return with specific recommendations for actions in the next two months. The seven areas of focus are:

  • City Infrastructure
  • Fiscal Prudence
  • Quality Delivery of Customer Service
  • Environmental Sustainability
  • Public/Private Cooperative Partnerships
  • Affordable Housing
  • Economic Development
