2026 Downtown Ann Arbor Construction

The 2026 construction season may be one of Ann Arbor's busiest to date. Long-planned capital improvements, major utility upgrades, transportation investments and private development are resulting in a significant volume of work concentrated in and around the downtown core this spring, summer and fall. Downtown Ann Arbor will remain open for business; special events will proceed; and parking structures will be accessible!

This level of activity reflects years of planning and community input. Many of the projects scheduled for 2026 are critical to maintaining safe and reliable infrastructure, meeting sustainability and mobility goals, supporting housing development and boosting Ann Arbor’s vitality. While the short-term impacts will be noticeable, the long-term benefits will serve the community for decades to come.

For details on the individual city projects in Ann Arbor, please check out Engage Ann Arbor.

Map resources

The City of Ann Arbor partners with WAZE to provide a better overview of traffic controls within the city. Visit WAZE.com or download the WAZE app.

An interactive project map is available with detailed information. The map notes anticipated downtown road closures and can help you identify any potential impacts to your route during the busy construction season. It's important to remember, construction and closure/reopening dates may change as plans are finalized and work begins. Up-to-date information can be found by clicking any of the closures on the map, which opens a link to the projects' website.

Suggestions to help reduce aggravation:

  • Plan ahead. Determine closures that might affect your route before you get on your way.
  • Use park-and-ride lots and take public transportation via TheRide.
  • Carpool when headed downtown.
  • Consider walking, biking or rent an e-bike/e-scooter for short trips.
  • Allow for extra travel time.
  • Park outside the most active construction zones and walk to destinations.
  • Determine in advance where to park

Thank you for your patience!
