MOVING OUT? CAN'T BRING EVERYTHING HOME?
DONATE IT INSTEAD!

WHY? By donating your stuff, you can help families that were previously unhoused, provide food for fellow students, and reduce your waste to the landfill. Last year, several organizations in Ann Arbor sent about 40 tons of materials for reuse or recycling and helped 511 households with 634 children get setup with a new home. Help build equity and resilience in Ann Arbor by giving your things a new and extended life!

WHAT STUFF? Furniture, clean mattresses, household items, lamps, electronics, décor, rugs, clothing, nonperishable food, cleaning supplies and more.

WHEN? Now! Start now by making a plan now to donate your household items, décor, clothing, nonperishable food and more using the resources below. Again, this year, many local organizations are participating to give your stuff an extended and new life by helping collect it and get it to those in need. Whether you live on-campus or off, there are opportunities for you to donate your things.

Live on Campus?

On-campus services are provided by the University of Michigan and include collecting at residence halls using drop boxes for good condition, clean clothing, shoes, and bedding and unopened, not-expired food, and household items and toiletries. There are also take it or leave it areas in each residence hall for bulky items. For full details about on-campus collections visit: U of M

Live off Campus?

Off-campus, there are services provided by local non-profits like House N2 Home who is providing curbside pick-up for household items and décor IN GOOD USABLE CONDITION over six days in the area between Oakland Avenue, South Forest Avenue, Hill Street, and Tappan Avenue. They will have clearly marked vehicles and volunteers available to collect your items. HouseN2Home is also collaborating with Oxford Management, Dan's Houses, several high rises, and most sororities to collect from these properties. For full details visit their campus collection webpage.

Have a car or a friend with a car?

The City of Ann Arbor has a Reuse page that has information on what to do with unwanted items. We encourage students who are moving in or out to use these resources for unwanted items. Although the City will accept some items during Move in Move out for reuse, this page includes year-round services and has additional resources for reusing items.
