City of Ann Arbor Closures

The E. T. MacKenzie Companies will require a closure of this part of the Independence Boulevard for the underground utility work.

Beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, March 17, vehicles turning east into Independence Boulevard from Packard Road will be detoured south on Packard Road, north on Gladstone Avenue, and east onto Independence Boulevard. Vehicles traveling westbound on Independence Boulevard will be detoured south on Gladstone Avenue, and north on Packard Road.

Local residential access will be maintained. Pedestrian traffic will be maintained on the south side of Independence Boulevard.

 

Corby Energy Services, on behalf of DTE, will be closing North First Street bike path.

Beginning at 7 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, northbound cyclists traveling on North First Street will be detoured on Miller Avenue, north on North Ashley Street, then to West Kingsley Street. Westbound cyclists traveling on West Kingsley Street will be detoured south on North Ashley Street, west on Miller Avenue, to North First Street.

Sidewalk traffic will not be affected.

Bay Crane Midwest will be occupying the westbound lane of East Washington Street in front of the building under construction at 616 East Washington Street. Work will take place between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. each weekday the closure is in effect. 

Beginning at 7 a.m. Thursday, March 6, eastbound East Washington Street vehicle traffic will be detoured north on South Division Street to East Huron Street then east on East Huron Street to South State Street then south on South State Street back to East Washington Street.   Westbound vehicle traffic will be maintained on East Washington Street.

Local businesses will have access maintained. Pedestrian traffic will be maintained on the north side of East Washington Street. Cyclists are encouraged to use the cycle track on South Division and detour south to East William Street.

East Huron Street from Glen Avenue to Fletcher Street will be reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction for utility work.

Beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, March 3, 2025, East Huron Street between Glen Avenue and Fletcher Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction, with the eastbound traffic shifted to the north side of East Huron Street, to make space for utility work for a DTE repair project. 

Drivers should expect significant delays and are encouraged to find alternative routes or modes of travel.

Sidewalk traffic will continue to be detoured to the south side of East Huron Street from Glen Avenue to Fletcher Street.

Eagle Excavating will be installing a utility lead under a section of East Liberty Street. 

Beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, March 3, eastbound East Liberty Street will be detoured south on Thompson Street then east on East William Street then north on Maynard Street the east on East Liberty Street. Westbound East Liberty Street vehicle traffic will not be impacted.

Pedestrian traffic will be maintained on the north side of East Liberty Street.

East Edge Excavating will be constructing utility leads on East William Street for a new building. Construction will take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the day.

Beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, March 3, East William Street between Hamilton Place and South Division Street will be closed to vehicle traffic, including bicycles. Eastbound East William Street will be detoured north on South Fourth Avenue then east on East Liberty Street then south on Thompson Street back to East William Street. Westbound East William Street will be detoured north on South Division Street then west on East Liberty Street then south on South Fifth Avenue back to East William Street.

Eastbound East William Street bicycle traffic will be detoured south on South Fifth Avenue then east on Packard Street then north on South Division Street back to East Willaim Street. Westbound East William bicycle traffic will be detoured south on South Division Street then west on Packard Street then north on South Main Street back to East William Street.

Pedestrian traffic will be maintained on the south side of East William Street.

Beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2025, East Huron Street between Glen Avenue and Fletcher Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction, with the eastbound traffic shifted to the north side of East Huron Street, to make space for utility work for a DTE repair project.

Huron Valley Electric, on behalf of Eagle Excavation Inc., will be closing the southbound lane of Observatory Street to set up a crane for construction.

Beginning at 7 a.m. Thursday, March 6, southbound vehicles traveling on Glen Avenue will be detoured to East Huron Street, east on Geddes Avenue, back to Observatory Street. Eastbound vehicles on Ann Street to Observatory Street will be detour east on East Medical Center Drive, west on Fuller Road, to Glenn Avenue detour. Northbound vehicles traveling on Observatory Street will not be affected.

Sidewalk traffic on the west side of Observatory Street will be detoured to the east side of the street.

Corby Energy Services, on behalf of DTE, will be performing daily lane closures on Pontiac Trail to install 2- to 5-foot conduits to a future cable pole.

Beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, vehicles traveling northbound on Moore Street will be flagged and guided safely around the work site as well as vehicles traveling southbound on Pontiac Trail. Traffic measures will be removed every day after working hours to allow a normal flow of traffic and placed back every morning starting at 9 a.m. for the duration of work.

Sidewalk traffic will not be affected.

The contractor, C.A. Hull, will be replacing the deck, relocating utilities and many other improvements to the substructure to rehabilitate and widen the bridge on the east side of the bridge.

Beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, depending on weather, the two vehicle lanes currently open will be shifted from the west to the east side of East Medical Center Drive bridge, from West Medical Center Drive to Fuller Road/Maiden Lane. Southbound East Medical Center Drive traffic will be switched on Saturday and northbound traffic will be switched Tuesday to allow crews to adjust barrier walls. One vehicle lane in each direction on the bridge will remain open throughout project duration; one vehicle lane in each direction on the bridge will always remain open throughout the project duration.

The following restrictions remain from Phase 2:

  • No northbound East Medical Center Drive left turn will be allowed onto westbound Fuller Road.
  • No southbound Maiden Lane left turns will be allowed onto eastbound Fuller Road.

The sidewalk on the east side of the road will be closed and pedestrians will be detoured to the west sidewalk on Tuesday, Feb. 11.

Delays in the area are anticipated and seeking an alternative route is, therefore, recommended.

The following detours will remain in place:

Fuller Road
No northbound East Medical Center Drive left turn will be allowed onto westbound Fuller Road.

Detour: Turn right along eastbound Fuller Road, then use the two Fuller Road left-turn lanes across from Fuller Park Pool.

Maiden Lane
No southbound Maiden Lane left turns will be allowed onto eastbound Fuller Road.

Detour: North on Maiden Lane, east on Plymouth Road, south on Murfin Avenue and south on Bonisteel back to Fuller Road.

A separate notification will be issued for a new traffic pattern during the next phase of the project. 

The private development at 711 Church St. will require a lane closure of the northbound traffic lane of Church Street to construct their new apartment building. Construction will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2025, to Thursday, April 1, 2027. 

Beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10, northbound Church Street traffic will be detoured west onto Hill Street, north onto East University Avenue, ease onto Willard Street, and then north back to Church Street. 

Pedestrian traffic will be maintained on the west side of Church Street.

The AC Hotel private development at 310 E. Huron St. will require a long-term lane closure of the easternmost southbound traffic lane of South Fifth Avenue to construct the hotel building. Construction will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, to Friday, Oct. 31.

From Monday, Jan. 13, until Friday, Oct. 31, 2025, South Fifth Avenue between East Huron Street and East Washington Street will be reduced to one lane to make space for continued hotel construction. ​

Non-vehicle traffic will be maintained on the west side of South Fifth Avenue. ​

Special Event Closures

The following streets will be closed for the Shamrocks and Shenanigans 5K Run/Walk special event:
  • ​South Main Street from Stadium to West Jefferson
  • Madison from South Fourth to Main Street
  • West Jefferson from Main Street to South First
  • South First from West Jefferson to West Washington
  • West Washington from South First to South Ashley
  • South Ashley from West Jefferson to West Washington

WHAT: Seasonal Weight Restrictions

WHEN: Friday, Feb. 28, 2025, at 6 a.m. until further notice

WHERE: County-wide

BACKGROUND: Seasonal Weight Restrictions will go into effect starting Friday, February 28, 2025, at 6 a.m. A subsequent advisory will be issued when the Seasonal Weight Restrictions are suspended.

Most of the roadways under the Washtenaw County Road Commission’s jurisdiction are seasonally restricted. For more information about which roads are impacted, refer to the current WCRC Truck Operator’s Map.

This action is taken in accordance with the Washtenaw County Board of County Road Commissioners’ Resolution No. RC09-052 and is pursuant to Act 300 of the Public Acts of 1949, as amended [MCL §257.722].
