A2ZERO Heat Pump Concierge Platform Offers Convenient Switch to Clean, Healthy Heating and Cooling

The Ann Arbor Office of Sustainability and Innovations is announcing a new platform designed to help residents transition from gas furnaces to cleaner electric heat pumps. Designed with and operated by Pearl Edison, the A2ZERO Heat Pump Concierge Platform (osi.a2gov.org/heatpumpconcierge) provides system design options, guaranteed price estimates, direct oversight of contractor installation and quality assurance. The platform also includes all applicable rebates and incentives that apply to a particular project.
On the platform, users are able to input home information to generate initial heat pump system design options in a process that takes approximately five minutes. Information on things such as up-front cost, operational cost impacts, climate impacts and applicable rebates and incentives is included. Together, this information aims to empower residents to choose the heat pump that’s right for them, including any and all necessary improvements that might be needed as part of transitioning from gas heat to heat pumps. Residents who wish to move forward with installing a heat pump will receive an on-site home assessment to finalize the design and lock in a guaranteed price. Pearl Edison will then work directly with vetted contractors on installation. The entire process is free for Ann Arbor residents.
Heat pumps are gaining significant traction nationwide, surpassing gas furnaces as of 2022. And with technology advances in cold climates, heat pumps have been shown to reduce carbon emissions in all 48 contiguous states, with increasing adoption of grid-scale renewable energy only adding to the scale of impact over time. Learn more about heat pumps at a2gov.org/heatpumps, or visit the new A2ZERO Heat Pump Concierge Platform.
In Ann Arbor, buildings make up approximately two thirds of climate-warming emissions. The city notes transitioning heating/cooling systems away from gas to electricity powered by renewables is a big step in helping to meet A2ZERO carbon neutrality goals. Additionally, moving away from burning fossil gas in living spaces creates substantial comfort, health and safety benefits.
The City of Ann Arbor Office of Sustainability and Innovations was founded in 2018 and is guided by the Ann Arbor Carbon Neutrality Plan: A2ZERO. A2ZERO strives toward one unifying vision: Together, creating and implementing a just transition to carbon neutrality, community-wide, by the year 2030. Learn more at www.a2gov.org/sustainability.
