Redwood Park was acquired by the City of Ann Arbor in 1989. The property was purchased for $32,250 using funds from the 1988-92 Park Acquisition Millage. The park was officially named Redwood, after the street it is on, in 1990. In 2006, input was solicited from the public and neighbors of the park regarding improving the park. The decision was made to plant trees, to add benches with an awning at the bus stop along the park and to create a garden bed with a bench and a paved path encircling it. This work was completed in 2007 for approximately $19,000. Parents and children from the Early Learning Center Preschool across the street from the park helped plant the garden bed in 2008, and volunteers have helped maintain the garden at Redwood in the years following.
