In June 2020, the City's plan to achieve a just transit​ion to community-wide carbon neutrality, known as A2ZERO​, was unanimously adopted by City Council. Each year, the Office of Sustainability and Innovations organizes A2ZERO Week to commemorate the passing of the plan and to celebrate the work done by the City and our many collaborators in the sustainability

​A2ZERO Passport to Fun!  June 9-14 - Get ready to engage and have fun at events throughout the week! Starting June 4, pick up an A2ZERO Passport to Fun at any Ann Arbor District Library branch. During A2ZERO Week, attend a qualified event or stop by a participating location to get a stamp.  Get at least eight stamps on your Passport and submit your entry form by noon on June 14 to be automatically entered to win great prizes! Get a stamp at ​all sixteen locations to qualify for a double entry! Note: entry form goes live on June 9 and closes at noon on June 14. Drawing will be held at the Ann Arbor Summer Festival Annex on June 15 at 6 p.m. No purchase required to participate and need not be present to win. FREE

A2ZERO Food Waste Challenge with ZeroWaste.Org June 9-15 – Did you know that the average household in the US wastes 35% of their food?  And that annually, food waste in the U​​S accounts for GHG emissions equivalent to 42 coal-fired power plants? (source: USDA) Combined, those two statistics add up to OPPORTUNITY! Join the Food Waste Challenge and learn how simple adaptations to how you shop, prepare, consume, and dispose of food can significantly contribute to reducing your carbon footprint and creating a more sustainable future! A2ZERO Bikeway Tours with Human Electric Hybrids June 9, 10-11 a.m., 320 Miller Ave. – Curious about the proper use of Ann Arbor’s protected bikeways? Take this casual tour and learn more along the way. Arrive fifteen minutes ahead of time ​with your bike, helmet, water bottle, and weather-appropriate gear. Registration appreciated. Just visit the Human Electric Hybrids website​, click contact us/location, and fill out the “Ask Jim About Anything E-Bike” form​​ and let us know in the message section that you plan to join the ride. Log Yard Open House June 9, 12-2 p.m., W.R. Wheeler Service Center, 4150 Platt Road - Stop by and learn about the lifecycle of City trees from first planting to wood recovery! You will “leaf” with a new understanding of our amazing City trees, including the many benefits trees provide that help us meet our sustainability goals. Presented by City of Ann Arbor Forestry, Urban Ashes, and the A2ZERO 10,000 Trees Initiative. FREE; A2ZERO Passport to Fun event ​

Green Energy Neighbors Net Zero Home Tour June 9, 1-4 p.m. – Ever wondered about decarbonizing your home?  Here is your chance to tour a net zero home and learn about the owner’s 12-year journey to full decarbonization.  Meet A2ZERO Ambassadors, bring your questions, and plan to capture lots of great information and resources! Registration required. FREE ​

Ward 3 Party at Bicentennial Park June 9, 4-5 p.m., 2901 E. Ellsworth Road (formerly Southeast Area Park)– Get to know your neighbors and sample delicious treats from VegMichigan as we celebrate our community and the A2ZERO Plan! FREE  

Wasted: the Story of Food Waste film screening at the Michigan Theater, June 9, 7 p.m. –​ Join A2ZERO and ZeroWaste.Org as we kick off the zerowaste.org/a2foodwaste​ challenge with this compelling film and a post-screening discussion with Graham Patton from Food Gatherers​ and Lydia McMullen-Laird of ZeroWaste.Org. Tickets available through Marquee Arts​.  Watch the TRAILER​. 

​​A2ZERO Sewing Repair Clinic – June 10, 12:30-2:30 p.m., 4567 Washtenaw Ave. – learn basic repair techniques with Ann Asplund, owner of Ann Other Day, ZeroWaste.Org, SCRAP Creative Reuse, and the City of Ann Arbor Circular Economy team. Sew buttons and hems, repair rips, and add patches - or make a reusable produce bag! Extra bags will be donated to the Ann Arbor Farmers market to increase awareness about food waste and offer alternatives to single-use plastic produce bags. Limited capacity. Registration required. FREE

Celebrate City Solar Installations -  June 10, 2 p.m., Ann Arbor Senior Center 1320 Baldwin Ave. - Join Congresswoman Dingell, Mayor Taylor, local representatives, and City staff to celebrate the installation of solar systems throughout City parks​ to increase resilience and transition to clean, renewable electricity.  FREE​

Ward 2 Party at Sugarbush Park, Monday, June 10, 5-6 p.m., Rumsey Road (Near Playground and Tennis courts) - Get to know your neighbors and sample delicious treats from VegMichigan as we celebrate our community and the A2ZERO Plan! FREE ​

Ann Arbor Distilling Company A2ZERO Cockt​​ail Classes NEW DATE  June 24 – Channel your inner mixologist using local, sustainable ingredients! Make two cocktails using unique recipes designed just for A2ZERO Week, t​our the distille​ry,​ learn about our local food system with Ryan Poe of The Hungry Locavore, and try some locally-sourced bites. A2ZERO Climate Trivia Night, hosted by Citizens’ Climate Lobby at Venue Thursday, June 13, 7-9 p.m., 1919 S. Industrial Hwy in Ann Arbor – ​ Are you a trivia champ? Are you a whiz when it comes to facts about climate change?  Then come strut your stuff at A2ZERO Climate Trivia Night! Seating is limited. Bring your own team of six or join a team when you arrive.  Register to reserve your spot and learn more about the event. FREE ​​​ ​

YMCA Block Party June 15, noon-4 p.m., 400 W. Washington Street –Join A2ZERO at this family-friendly event to learn about sustainability in our community! FREE ​

Sustainable Fun and Your Bright Future with A2ZERO at the A2SF KidZone June 15, 5-8 p.m., N. Ingalls Mall – Join A2ZERO at the A2SF KidZone for sustainability focused games and activities!  Make a craft for your community, take the recycling sorting challenge with the Ecology Center, learn about habitats and biodiversity with the University of Michigan Museum of Natural History, and get a butterfly painted on your arm.  Bring an old, plain, cotton t-shirt over to the Annex for a sustainable screen print and be sure to check out the solar robot from All Hands Active, too! a2sf.org FREE 

Envisioning Our Sustainable Future with A2ZERO at the A2SF Annex June 15, 5-9 p.m., N. Ingalls Mall – As we celebrate Ann Arbor’s Bicentennial, join A2ZERO at the Annex to help envision the next 200 years. The City of Ann Arbor’s Offices of Planning, Transportation, and Sustainability and Innovations will be onsite to answer your questions and listen to your insights regarding land use planning in Ann Arbor. You are also invited to learn about sustainable transportation options with getDowntown​ and Urban Cargo Riders​, explore land use connections to freshwater resources with the Huron River Watershed Council​, engage at the Sustainable Screen-printing Station, check out the solar robot with All Hands Active, learn about the carbon/food connection with VegMichigan​, and test your trivia skills under the tent! a2sf.org FREE ​​

Become an Ambassador

​The A2ZERO Ambassador Program​ provides an opportunity for interested individuals to take a deep dive into pathways for advancing local sustainability, resilience, and carbon neutrality.  A2ZERO Ambassadors take part in a training program that explores multiple aspects of what it takes to truly become a sustainable and carbon neutral community.  Ambassadors will leave this​ training with the knowledge, tools, and resources to discuss climate change and the specific actions that their community can begin implementing to advance carbon neutrality. You can register your interest in becoming an Ambassador by emailing Bryce Frohlich​.
