Overview

Woodbury Park is a 2.5 acre neighborhood park located on Astor Avenue, in the Woodbury Gardens community area. It is just south of Stadium Boulevard and just east of South Industrial Highway. View the Ann Arbor Parks and Nature Areas Map for location context. The park, nestled among apartment homes, has a variety of amenities. There are two tennis courts, a half basketball court, and a playground. There’s a grass field for pick-up games of football, frisbee, or relaxing under the trees.

Park Notices

Unless otherwise posted per City Council resolution, when a park is closed, no person shall remain in or enter it other than to quietly sit or walk.

Street parking is available on Astor Avenue, where the park's entrance is.

Woodbury Park is accessible on foot and by bike. The surrounding neighborhood streets have sidewalks but no dedicated bike lanes. There are no bike racks at the park.

Nearby city parks include Iroquois Park to the north and Frisinger Park to the northwest.

Public Transportation

History

Ann Arbor's city parks sit on the ancestral and traditional homelands of several indigenous Native peoples. Read a land acknowledgement from the city and learn more about the early history of the land here.

The land that now comprises Woodbury Park and the surrounding apartment complex used to be the location of the University of Michigan Botanical Gardens. From 1916 to 1961, the fifty-two-acre gardens were used to grow plants for research, classes, and decorations for university functions; there was no aesthetic principle involved in its design and maintenance. In 1960, the gardens moved to their current location on North Dixboro Road. Development on the Woodbury Gardens apartments near Woodbury Park began in in 1969. The developers named the streets Astor and Wisteria in honor of the land's former use.
