Southbound Lane Closure of North Fourth Avenue Between East Kingsley Street and Catherine Street
7 a.m.–8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2024
The 121 Catherine private development will require a southbound lane closure of North Fourth Avenue to perform on-site concrete work. Construction will take place from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26.
Beginning at 7 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, southbound traffic on North Fourth Avenue will be detoured east onto East Kingsley Street, south onto North Fifth Avenue, west onto Catherine Street, and south back to North Fourth Avenue.
Northbound traffic on North Fourth Avenue will be maintained.
Sidewalk traffic will be maintained on the east side of North Fourth Avenue.
Single Lane Closure With Temporary Signal on West Liberty Street between Scio Ridge Road and South Maple Road7 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18-5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2024R.L. Coolsaet Construction Co., on behalf of DTE, is conducting work on West Liberty Street for the installation of a natural gas main under I-94.
Due to unforeseen issues, including with DTE installations, the project has been delayed. As a result of the delay and impacts to residents, the city met with DTE and decided to modify the previous full closure to only a partial beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18.
Under the new partial closure, one lane of traffic will be accessible at a time with access controlled by a temporary signal.
Sidewalk access remains unaffected by this project.
Full Closure of South Forest Avenue between Hill Street and Willard Street
7 a.m.–5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, 2024
Connelly Crane Rental Corporation will close South Forest Avenue for crane disassembly.
Beginning at 7 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, northbound vehicle traffic on South Forest Avenue will be detoured west to Church Street, then north on Church Street to Willard Street, then east on Willard Street back to South Forest Avenue. Southbound South Forest Avenue vehicle traffic will be detoured west on Willard Street to Church Street, then south on Church Street to Hill Street, then east on Hill Street back to South Forest Avenue.
Sidewalk traffic will be maintained on the west side of South Forest Avenue.
Closure of West William Street between South Ashley Street and South Main Street
7 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19–5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2024
Corby Energy Services, on behalf of DTE, will be closing West William Street between South Ashley Street and South Main Street to repair the ceiling of a manhole located within the bike path.
Beginning at 7 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, eastbound vehicles and cyclists traveling on West William Street will be detoured north on South Ashley Street, east on West Liberty Street, south on South Main Street, back to East William Street. Westbound vehicles and cyclists will be detoured north on South Main Street, west on West Liberty Street, south on South Ashley Street, back to West William Street.
Sidewalk traffic on the north side of West William Street will be detoured to the south side of the street.
Southbound Closure of South Fifth Avenue Between East Huron Street and East Washington Street
9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18– 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, 2024
The AC Hotel private development at 310 E. Huron St. will require a closure of South Fifth Avenue to finish the installation of a permanent pavement patch in South Fifth Avenue. Construction will take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18 through Friday, Nov. 22.
Beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18, southbound traffic on North Fifth Avenue will be detoured west onto East Huron Street, south onto South Fourth Avenue, east onto East Washington Street, and south back to South Fifth Avenue.
In addition, South Fifth Avenue north of East Washington Street will become, temporarily, two-way traffic to maintain access to local businesses.
Pedestrian traffic will be maintained on the west side of South Fifth Avenue.
Full Closure of Catherine Street between Glen Avenue and North Ingalls Street;
*Delayed start date: 7 a.m. Friday, Nov. 15– 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024
Colsanti Construction Services will be closing Catherine Street between Glen Avenue and North Ingalls Street in order to make pavement repairs. Construction will take place between 7 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. during the work week while the closure is in effect.
Beginning at 7 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, vehicles traveling westbound on Catherine Street will be detoured south on Glen Avenue to East Huron Street, then west on East Huron Street to North Ingalls Street, then north on North Ingalls Street back to Catherine Street.
Vehicles traveling eastbound on Catherine Street will be detoured north on North Ingalls Street, then east on East Kingsley Street to North State Street, then south on North State Street to East Huron Street, then east on East Huron Street to Glen Avenue, then north on Glen Avenue back to Catherine Street.
As East Ann Street remains closed between North Ingalls Street and Glen Avenue, eastbound East Ann Street traffic will be detoured south on North State Street, then east on East Huron Street, then north on Glen Avenue back to East Ann Street.
Pedestrian traffic and bicycle traffic will be maintained on the north side of Catherine Street and the south side of East Ann Street. Emergency vehicles are advised to follow the posted detours.
Full Closure of East Washington Street Between South Division Street and South State Street
7 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11– 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024
Tribco will be dismantling a crane within all lanes of the road in front of the building under construction at 616 E. Washington St. Construction will take place between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. each weekday the closure is in effect.
Beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, westbound East Washington Street vehicle traffic will be detoured north on South State Street to East Huron Street then west on East Huron Street to South Fifth Avenue then south on South Fifth Avenue back to East Washington Street.
Eastbound East Washington Street vehicle traffic will be detoured north on South Division Street to East Huron Street then east on East Huron Street to South State Street then south on South State Street back to East Washington Street.
Local businesses will have access maintained. Pedestrian traffic will be maintained on the north side of East Washington Street. Cyclists are encouraged to use the cycle track on South Division and detour south to East Liberty.
Full Closure of North Fourth Avenue Between East Kingsley Street and Catherine Street
9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6– 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2024
The 121 Catherine private development will require a closure of North Fourth Avenue to install underground utilities. Construction will take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, through Monday, Nov. 11.
Beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6, southbound traffic on North Fourth Avenue will be detoured east onto East Kingsley Street, south onto North Fifth Avenue, west onto Catherine Street, and south back to North Fourth Avenue. Northbound traffic on North Fourth Avenue will be detoured west onto Catherine Street, north onto North Main Street, west onto East Kingsley Street, and north back to North Fourth Avenue.
North Fourth Avenue south of East Kingsley Street will remain open to maintain access to local businesses only.
Pedestrian traffic will be maintained on the east side of North Fourth Avenue.
Closure Then Conversion to Two-Way Traffic of East Ann Street Between North Ingalls Street and Glen Avenue*Closure extended: 7 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15–5 p.m., Monday, Nov. 18, 2024Eagle Excavating will be occupying the full width of East Ann Street to install utilities for a new building and to reconfigure a portion of East Ann Street to create a partial two-way conversion near Glen Avenue. Construction work will take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each workday while the closure is in place.
Beginning at 7 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, eastbound through traffic on East Ann Street will be detoured north on North Ingalls Street to Catherine Street, then east on Catherine Street back to Glen Avenue.
Following the closure, East Ann Street will then be temporarily converted to two-way traffic between North Ingalls Street and Glen Avenue for the duration of the work to allow residents and businesses on this block to access to their properties. Parking on the north side of East Ann Street will be prohibited between North Ingalls Street and Glen Avenue to create the temporary westbound travel lane.
At completion of the construction work, East Ann Street will be permanently converted to two-way traffic from Glen Avenue to approximately 250 feet west of Glen Avenue. Curbing will be relocated to direct eastbound traffic into the southerly travel lane prior to eastbound vehicles entering the two-way section of East Ann Street.
Sidewalk users will be detoured to the south side of East Ann Street at North Ingalls Street. Cyclists are advised to follow the posted detour.
Closure of Miller Avenue between North First Street and North Ashley Street*Closure extended: 7 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4–7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2024CCI Excavating will be occupying Miller Avenue between North First Street and North Ashley Street to complete utility work for the development at 212 Miller Ave.
Beginning at 7 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, eastbound vehicle traffic on Miller Avenue will be detoured south onto North First Street, then east onto West Huron Street, then north onto North Main Street, then east back to Catherine Street. Westbound vehicle traffic on Miller Avenue will be detoured south onto North Main Street, then west onto West Huron Street, then north onto North First Street, then west back to Miller Avenue. Local vehicle access on Miller Avenue will be maintained.
Eastbound cycle traffic on Miller Avenue will be detoured south onto North First Street, then east onto West Ann Street, then north onto North Ashley Street, then east back to Miller Avenue.
Westbound cycle traffic on Miller Avenue will be detoured south onto North Ashley Street, west onto West Ann Street, then north onto North First Street, then west back to Miller Avenue.
Full Closure of Prairie Street, Between Plymouth Road and Briarcliff Street
*Project start delayed.
Contractor will be occupying all lanes of Prairie Street between Plymouth Road and Briarcliff Street to demolish utility leads to a commercial building. Construction will take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. during each day of the full road closure.
Prairie Street between Plymouth Road and Briarcliff Street will be closed to through vehicle traffic, including bicycles. Northbound Prairie Street will be detoured west on Plymouth Road then north on Nixon Road then east on Aurora Street back to Prairie Street. Southbound Prairie Street will be detoured west on Briarcliff Street then west on Aurora Street then south on Nixon Road then east on Plymouth Road back to Prairie Street.
Local businesses will have access maintained at all times. The sidewalk on the east side of Prairie Street will remain open for use.
Phase 2 — East Medical Center Drive Bridge Rehabilitation and Widening Project — Bridge, from West Medical Center Drive to Fuller Road/Maiden Lane
9 a.m. Monday, May 20– 3 p.m. Jan. 6, 2025
Vehicle lanes are reduced on East Medical Center Drive Bridge, from West Medical Center Drive to Fuller Road/Maiden Lane. One vehicle lane in each direction on the bridge will remain open throughout the project duration.
The contractor, C.A. Hull, is replacing the bridge deck, relocating utilities and installing many other improvements to the substructure in order to rehabilitate and widen the bridge.

On East Medical Center Drive Bridge, from West Medical Center Drive to Fuller Road/Maiden Lane, one vehicle lane in each direction will remain open throughout project duration.
The sidewalk on the west side will be closed, and those walking will detour to the east sidewalk. People commuting through the area will experience delays. If possible, seeking an alternate route is suggested.
The following detours will remain in place:
-Fuller Road
No northbound East Medical Center Drive left turn will be allowed onto westbound Fuller Road.
Detour: Turn right along eastbound Fuller Road, then use the two Fuller Road left-turn lanes across from Fuller Park Pool.
-Maiden Lane
No southbound Maiden Lane left turns will be allowed onto eastbound Fuller Road.
Detour: North on Maiden Lane, east on Plymouth Road, south on Murfin Avenue and south on Bonisteel back to Fuller Road.
Full Closure of Greenview Drive from Scio Church Road to West Stadium Boulevard9 a.m. Monday, April 29– 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, 2024Miller Bros. will be installing water main and storm sewer and paving the road. Construction will take place between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
Beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, April 29, all vehicle lanes of Greenview Drive will be closed to through traffic between Scio Church Road and West Stadium Boulevard. The signed detours will be:
- Northbound traffic will travel east on Scio Church Road then north on South Seventh then west on West Stadium Boulevard.
- Southbound traffic will travel east on West Stadium Boulevard then south on South Seventh Street then west on Scio Church Road.
- Side street access to Greenview will be closed.
Local and emergency vehicle access will be maintained.
East Madison Street, Between South Main Street and South Division Street; and South Fifth Avenue, Between Packard Street and Hill Street
*No firm completion date is available at this time.
Site Development Inc. will be occupying East Madison Street from South Main Street to South Division Street, and South Fifth Avenue from Packard Street to Hill Street to relocate a public utility. Construction will take place between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays, with occasional work taking place on Saturdays.
Beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, eastbound traffic on West Madison Street will be detoured north onto South Main Street, then southeast onto Packard Street, then east back to East Madison Street. Westbound traffic on East Madison Street will be detoured northwest onto Packard Street, then south onto South Main Street, then west back to West Madison Street. Southbound traffic on South Fifth Avenue will be detoured northwest onto Packard Street, then south onto South Main Street, then east onto Hill Street. Southbound traffic on South Fourth Avenue will be detoured northwest onto Packard Street, then south onto South Main Street, then back to East Madison Street.
South Fifth Avenue between Packard Street and East Madison Street will be temporarily converted to a two-way street for local traffic only, with a temporary signal on northbound South Fifth Avenue at Packard Street and the street parking on the east side of South Fifth Avenue closed.
South Fourth Avenue between Packard Street and East Madison Street will remain open for local access only.
Local businesses on East Madison will have access maintained at all times. All local residences within the closed section of East Madison Street and South Fifth Avenue and businesses within the closed section of South Fifth Avenue will have access coordinated by the project.
Pedestrian traffic will be maintained along the north side of East Madison Street. Emergency vehicles are advised to follow the detour route.

Closures for 2024 University of Michigan Football
On Nov. 23, 2024 the following streets will be closed to create a vehicle free zone around Michigan Stadium during the football game. These closures would be effective three hours before and to the end of the game, with the exception of southbound Main Street, which will be closed beginning one hour before and to the end of the game.
- East Keech Street between South Main Street and Greene
- Closure of westbound right turn lane of East Stadium Blvd onto South Main Street just south of Michigan Stadium
- Closing South Main Street to both local and through traffic from Stadium Blvd. to Pauline
- Limited access to parking permit holders on Greene Street from East Hoover to Keech
