Full Closure of Monroe Street Between State Street and Tappan Avenue 

7 a.m. Thursday, July 25–5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, 2024

Corby Energy Services, on behalf of DTE, will be closing a section of Monroe Street to vehicle traffic for gas main work.

Beginning at 7 a.m. Thursday, July 25, eastbound vehicles traveling on Monroe Street will detour north on State Street, east on South University A​venue, and south on Tappan Avenue. Northbound vehicles traveling on Tappan Avenue will continue north on Tappan Avenue, west on South University Avenue, north on State Street to Monroe Street.​

Pedestrians traveling on the south side of Monroe Street will detour to the north side.

Emergency vehicles are advised to follow the posted detour, however, access to driveways within the closure will be maintained.


Full Closure of Huron River Drive Between North Maple Road and North Main Street

9 a.m. Thursday, July 18–5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2024

E.T. MacKenzie will be replacing a culvert under Huron River Drive just west of Bird Road.

Beginning at 9 a.m. Thursday, July 18, eastbound vehicle traffic on Huron River Drive will detour south on North Maple Road, east on Miller and then north on North Main Street. Westbound vehicle traffic will detour south on North Main Street, west on Miller and then north on North Maple Road.

During construction, access to the Barton Dam parking lot will be maintained via Main Street.



Full Closure of East Washington Street Between South Division Street and South State Street;

7 a.m. Monday, July 22– 5p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2024

Tribco will be operating a mobile crane within all lanes of the road in front of the building under construction at 616 E. Washington St. Construction will take place between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. each weekday the closure is in effect.

Beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, July 22, westbound East Washington Street vehicle traffic will be detoured north on South State Street to East Huron Street then west on East Huron Street to South Fifth Avenue then south on South Fifth Avenue back to East Washington Street.

Eastbound East Washington Street vehicle traffic will be detoured north on South Division Street to East Huron Street then east on East Huron Street to South State Street then south on South State Street back to East Washington Street.  

​Local businesses will have access maintained. Pedestrian traffic will be maintained on the north side of East Washington Street. Cyclists are encouraged to use the cycle track on South Division and detour south to East Liberty.​


Closure of Westbound Lanes of Hill Street from Church Street to South State Street,

Monday, July 22–Friday, Aug. 16, 2024

Beginning Monday, July 22, 2024, the westbound vehicle lanes of Hill Street will be closed from Church Street to South State Street. During the first phase eastbound traffic will be maintained on the north side of the street for shared use of vehicles and bikes. Access to and from Oakland Avenue, Tappan Avenue and East University Avenue will be unavailable from the closed side of Hill Street.

The following detour will be in place:

  • Westbound Hill Street vehicle traffic will be detoured north on Church Street, west on South University Avenue, south on South State Street, then back to Hill Street.

Pedestrian traffic will be maintained on sidewalks, with detours posted as necessary during sidewalk replacement work. ​​


East Huron Street Between Fifth Avenue and Division Street;

8 a.m. Monday, June 24– 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, 2024

East Huron Street from Fifth Avenue to Division Street will be reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction for utility work. ​

Beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, June 24, East Huron Street between Fifth Avenue and Division Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction to make space for utility work for a private development construction project. As the project progresses, drivers should be prepared for shifts in the lane closures as the construction moves from the north side of East Huron Street to the south side. Left turn movements from westbound East Huron Street onto southbound South Fifth Avenue will be restricted during this time.

Drivers should expect significant delays and are encouraged to find alternative routes or modes of travel.

Those using the sidewalks will continue to detour to the north side of East Huron Street from Fifth Avenue to Division Street. ​

 

Vehicle Lane Shift and Bike Lane Closure on Stone School Road Between Packard and Eisenhower;

7 a.m. Monday, June 24– 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2024

Doan Construction Co., on behalf of the City of Ann Arbor, will be occupying northbound vehicle lane on Stone School Road between Packard and Eisenhower for eastern new sidewalk grading and construction. Construction will take place between approximately 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. during the work week, as weather permits.

Beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, June 24, the northbound vehicle lane of Stone School Road between Packard and Eisenhower will be shifted to the center turning lane so that two-way traffic can be maintained. Local access to driveways will be preserved. The bike lane along Stone School will also be closed and “Share the Road" signs will be put in place. Pedestrian access will be maintained on the western side of the road. ​


Vehicle and/or bike lanes in the Michigan Stadium area: along Keech Avenue between South Main Street and Greene Street, South Main Street between Keech Avenue and East Stadium Boulevard, and East Stadium Boulevard between South Main Street and Kipke Drive

9 a.m. Monday, June 17-5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2024 

Beginning 9 a.m. Monday, June 17, eastbound Keech Avenue traffic will be detoured north to East Hoover Avenue then east on East Hoover Avenue to Greene Street then south on Greene Street back to Keech Avenue. 

Northbound South Main Street bicycle traffic will share the traffic lane with northbound vehicular traffic from East Stadium Boulevard to Keech Avenue.

Westbound East Stadium bicycle traffic and vehicular traffic turning right onto South Main Street will share the northern westbound East Stadium Boulevard through-lane between Kipke Drive and South Main Street. 

Pedestrian traffic will be maintained on the south side of East Stadium Boulevard, the west side of South Main Street and the north side of Keech Avenue. Pedestrians using Keech Avenue will be detoured north to Pauline Boulevard to cross South Main Street.

Emergency vehicles are advised to follow the posted detour for eastbound Keech Avenue.​


​Westbound Lane Closure of Geddes Avenue between US-23 Ramp and Earhart Road  

7 a.m. Thursday, June 6–5 p.m. Friday, Oct 4, 2024​

R.L Coolsaet, on behalf of DTE, ha​s reduced the westbound two lanes of vehicle traffic to one to work on a tie-in to an existing DTE gas pipeline on Geddes Avenue.

As of 7 a.m. June 6, the two westbound vehicle lanes of Geddes Avenue between Earhart Road and the US-23 ramp have merged into one and shifted to the center lane of the road. The two eastbound vehicle lanes are impacted.

Pedestrian traffic on the north side of Geddes Avenue detour to the south side of the street.


Lane Shift on Geddes Avenue Between Geddes Ridge Avenue and Hickory Lane

8 a.m. Tuesday, May 28–5 p.m. Thursday, July 25, 2024

R.L Coolsaet, on behalf of DTE, will be posting a lane shift with flaggers on site to direct vehicle traffic for underground utility work.

Beginning at 8 a.m. Tuesday, May. 28, there will be intermittent lane shifts with flaggers present to direct vehicles. Signage in advance of the shift will be set up to warn drivers on the specific lane that will be shifted.​

Pedestrian traffic will b​e escorted safely through site when necessary.

The bike lane will merge into the road at the work area for a “share the road" segment.


East Huron Street between Glen Avenue and Fletcher Street

Monday, May 20-Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2024

Beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2024, East Huron Street between Glen Avenue and Fletcher Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction to make space for utility work for a University of Michigan construction project. As the project progresses, drivers should be prepared for shifts in the lane closures as the construction shifts from the north side of East Huron Street to the south side.

Those using the sidewalks will continue to detour to the south side of East Huron Street from Glen Avenue to Fletcher Street.


Phase 2 — East Medical Center Drive Bridge Rehabilitation and Widening Project — Bridge, from West Medical Center Drive to Fuller Road/Maiden Lane;

9 a.m. Monday, May 20– 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, 2024

Vehicle lanes will be reduced on East Medical Center Drive Bridge, from West Medical Center Drive to Fuller Road/Maiden Lane. One vehicle lane in each direction on the bridge will remain open throughout the project duration.

  • No northbound East Medical Center Drive left turn will be allowed onto westbound Fuller Road.
  • No southbound Maiden Lane left turns will be allowed onto eastbound Fuller Road.

The contractor, C.A. Hull, will be replacing the bridge deck, relocating utilities and installing many other improvements to the substructure in order to rehabilitate and widen the bridge.

Beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, May 20, vehicle lanes will be reduced on East Medical Center Drive Bridge, from West Medical Center Drive to Fuller Road/Maiden Lane. One vehicle lane in each direction on the bridge will remain open throughout project duration.

The sidewalk on the west side will be closed, and those walking will detour to the east sidewalk. People commuting through the area will experience delays. If possible, seeking an alternate route is suggested.

The following detours will remain in place:

Fuller Road
No northbound East Medical Center Drive left turn will be allowed onto westbound Fuller Road.

Detour: Turn right along eastbound Fuller Road, then use the two Fuller Road left-turn lanes across from Fuller Park Pool.

Maiden Lane
No southbound Maiden Lane left turns will be allowed onto eastbound Fuller Road.

Detour: North on Maiden Lane, east on Plymouth Road, south on Murfin Avenue and south on Bonisteel back to Fuller Road.


Full Closure of Greenview Drive from Scio Church Road to West Stadium Boulevard;

9 a.m. Monday, April 29– 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, 2024

Miller Bros. will be installing water main and storm sewer and paving the road. Construction will take place between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday.​

Beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, April 29, all vehicle lanes of Greenview Drive will be closed to through traffic between Scio Church Road and West Stadium Boulevard. The signed detours will be:

  • Northbound traffic will travel east on Scio Church Road then north on South Seventh then west on West Stadium Boulevard.
  • Southbound traffic will travel east on West Stadium Boulevard then south on South Seventh Street then west on Scio Church Road.
  • Side ​street access to Greenview will be closed. 
Local and emergency vehicle access will be maintained.


South Seventh Street from Scio Church Road to Delaware Drive;

9 a.m. Monday, April 29– 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024

Miller Bros. will be installing an upgraded water main, underground stormwater detention system and paving the road. Construction will take place between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday.​

Beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, April 29, South Seventh Street will be closed to non-resident traffic between Scio Church Road and Greenview Drive. The closure will shift between in-school and summer phases.

In-school (April 29–June 13):
  • South Seventh Street fully closed from Scio Church Road to Greenview Drive
  • One southbound lane open from Greenview Drive to Delaware Drive (for school access)
Summer (June 14–Aug. 24):
  • South Seventh Street fully closed from Scio Church Road to Delaware
  • Greenview Drive fully closed from Scio Church Road to South Seventh Street
Detours will be as follows:
  • Southbound traffic detours east on Scio Church Road then south onto Chaucer, then west onto Ascot, then south onto Lans Way, then west onto Delaware Drive.
  • Northbound traffic detours east on Delaware Drive, then north onto Lans Way, then east onto Ascot, then north onto Chaucer.
  • Access to Lawton Elementary from Scio Church will be maintained via Greenview Drive to South Seventh Street.
Local and emergency vehicle access will be maintained.


​East Madison Street, Between South Main Street and South Division Street; and South Fifth Avenue, Between Packard Street and Hill Street

*Completion date delayed further: August 30, 2024. Project has experienced multiple issues including finding concrete walls beneath the road, water mains located in unexpected places and most recently finding a sanitary pipe that has required changes in the project. ​

Site Development Inc. will be occupying East Madison Street from South Main ​Street to South Division Street, and South Fifth Avenue from Packard Street to Hill Street to relocate a public utility. Construction will take place between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays, with occasional work taking place on Saturdays. ​

Beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, eastbound traffic on West Madison Street will be detoured north onto South Main Street, then southeast onto Packard Street, then east back to East Madison Street. Westbound traffic on East Madison Street will be detoured northwest onto Packard Street, then south onto South Main Street, then west back to West Madison Street.​ Southbound traffic on South Fifth Avenue will be detoured northwest onto Packard Street, then south onto South Main Street, then east onto Hill Street. Southbound traffic on South Fourth Avenue will be detoured northwest onto Packard Street, then south onto South Main Street, then back to East Madison Street.

South Fifth Avenue between Packard Street and East Madison Street will be temporarily converted to a two-way street for local traffic only, with a temporary signal on northbound South Fifth Avenue at Packard Street and the street parking on the east side of South Fifth Avenue closed.

South Fourth Avenue between Packard Street and East Madison Street will remain open for local access only.

Local businesses on East Madison will have access maintained at all times. All local residences within the closed section of East Madison Street and South Fifth Avenue and businesses within the closed section of South Fifth Avenue will have access coordinated by the project.

Pedestrian traffic will be maintained along the north side of East Madison Street. Emergency vehicles are advised to follow the detour route.

 

Special​ ​​event closures​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

From 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 31 until 1 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, 2024, the following street will be closed for the Electricians NTI Block Party special event:

  • South Main Street between William and Liberty


From 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2024, the following streets will be closed for the Ann Arbor Pride 2024 special event:

  • Main Street from William to Huron
  • Liberty Street from Main Street to State Street​


Each Thursday, from June 6 to August 29, 2024, between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., the following street will be closed for the Sonic Lunch​ special event:

  • Liberty Street between South Fifth and Division


Beginning on May 2, 2024, the following streets will be closed 4 p.m. Thursdays through 6 a.m. Mondays, except for the closure West Washington Street which shall be for 24 hours a day, seven days a week, as part of the Ma​in Street​ Alliance downtown program:

  • Main Street from William to Washington
  • West Liberty Street from Ashley to Main
  • East Liberty Street from Main to Fourth
  • West Washington Street from Ashley to Main

These closures will conclude on or around October 27​, 2024. ​​
