Non-sworn position providing high quality support and services to the public and department in the following units; records, property and detective bureau.
Records Section: Work includes maintaining, researching and releasing official police records in compliance with city policy, Freedom of Information Act and the State of Michigan law enforcement records retention schedule; process incoming payments, updates sex offender records in the MiCJIN database.
Property Room: Works cooperatively with the Police Property Officer while serving as the Property Clerk; checks-in evidence and property; ensures evidentiary rules are followed; prepares items for auction, destruction and release; responsible for issuance/accounting and inventory of department owned equipment.
Detective Bureau: Assists detectives with administrative tasks; prepares monthly reports; organizes documents and coordinates with detectives on high profile cases; orders/maintains office supplies and equipment; maintains filing systems; communicates with the public, government agencies and other law enforcement agencies to assist and disseminate information; attends and keeps meeting minutes.
Minimum Job Qualifications and Requirements
Must be a U.S. citizen and at least 21 years of age.
High School Diploma or equivalent (GED); associate degree is preferred.
At least 3 years of progressive general office experience.
Additional skills required, but not limited to: knowledge of computers and software applications used in an office setting, strong organizational skills, demonstrate advanced typing and use of spreadsheets, knowledge of the City of Ann Arbor written public summary of Freedom of Information Act Procedures and Guidelines.
Pay and Benefits
(Based on current AAPPA union contract and subject to change per union negotiations.)
2020 starting salary: $25.28/hr ($50,515.30 annually).
2021 starting salary: $25.79/hr ($52,634.05 annually).
