Inaugural Ann Arbor Green Fare June 1–6 to Satisfy Appetites for Sustainable Cuisine

Archived News Release: May 21, 2021 - A new, annual event coming to downtown Ann Arbor will give the community a chance to discover and celebrate locally sourced food, plant-based cuisine and beverages as well as sustainable approaches to carryout and other business operations. Ann Arbor Green Fare will take place June 1–6 featuring local products and special menu items from 12 area merchants that are helping advance the A2ZERO goal of carbon neutrality:

  • Blom Meadworks.

  • Cherry Republic.

  • Conor O'Neill's.

  • Detroit Street Filling Station.

  • EAT.

  • El Harissa.

  • Jolly Pumpkin Café & Brewery.

  • Juicy Kitchen.

  • Miss Kim.

  • TAQ – Taqueria Restaurant & Bar.

  • Thrive Juicery.

  • Zingerman's Delicatessen.

“This is a great opportunity for the community to try out sustainable, locally sourced and plant-based dishes all while supporting local businesses," said Ann Arbor Sustainability and Innovations Manager Missy Stults. “A goal of this event is to demonstrate how simple changes to daily routines, such as meal planning, can make a difference for the planet." Green Fare is akin to and will operate much like other popular downtown attractions, Green Fair and Restaurant Week.

Green Fare is centered around the categories of:

  • Local Fare — Businesses offering a product that sources at least 50% of ingredients or materials from within 150 miles of Ann Arbor.

  • Plant-based Fare — Businesses offering vegetarian or vegan products.

  • Sustainably focused Business — Businesses that integrate sustainability into operational practices (e.g., implementing energy efficiency improvements, powering buildings with renewable energy, using sustainable sourcing practices, etc.).

  • Reusable and/or Compostable Materials — Businesses providing reusable and/or compostable materials for to-go orders.

  • Additional Options — Businesses supporting other initiatives that benefit the community.

In addition, throughout the month of June, four participating restaurants will be working with the city to pilot reusable and returnable A2R3 containers (Ann Arbor Reduce, Reuse, Return). Interested patrons can try out these containers at Zingerman's Delicatessen, Miss Kim, El Harissa and Detroit Street Filing Station.
