Not all transportation requires a car! Core strategy #4 of the A2ZERO Plan is to “Reduce the Miles We Travel in Our Vehicles by at least 50%". There are numerous ways to get around the city that do not involve a car:
- Try non-motorized options like walking, biking, rollerblading, or using a scooter. Not only do these options have zero emissions, they're also extremely affordable, good for your health, and help connect you with your community and surroundings. No more paying for parking with this option!
- Did you know:
- The City of Ann Arbor has over 90 lane-miles of on street bike lanes, 79 miles of shared-use paths, 11 lane-miles of marked shared lanes (sharrows), 1.2 protected bike lane-miles, and 7.0 of buffered bike lane-miles.
- There are over 900 bike parking spaces in downtown Ann Arbor, and bicycle parking is required in new developments.
- The City of Ann Arbor has over 400 miles of sidewalks and 57 lane miles of shared-use paths, and was named a Gold-level Walk Friendly Community by the Pedestrian and Bicycle Information Center.
- Reduce the commute all together and explore tele-working.
- If you have to drive, take group/shared rides to reduce the number of vehicles on the road.
