The SEU has been hard at work on two fronts: launching operations for the Bryant
neighborhood pilot, and continuing prep work to scale city-wide in 2027.

On May 18 the SEU installed our very first solar + battery systems in Bryant. There are
now three completed installations - of approximately 100 expected to receive solar
panels by this fall. Read more about it in the City’s press release.

The SEU’s proposed rates for the Bryant neighborhood were approved by Ann Arbor’s City Council. Bryant neighborhood residents will pay $600 per year for the energy from their solar + battery systems, a rate that is supported by grant funding and is expected to result in annual energy bill savings for nearly all participants.

In an earlier newsletter, we shared with you that we drilled a test well in the Bryant neighborhood Arbor Oaks Park to prepare for the geothermal system there. Watch this new video to experience it up close (without getting muddy!).

We’re hearing from many of you who are eager to know when you can get service at your own properties. Thank you for your enthusiasm, as well as your patience and understanding that we are learning from the Bryant Pilot and putting all the necessary processes in place to serve you well when we expand city-wide.
We anticipate:
- Proposing rates for the general public in fall 2026, for City Council’s review
- Moving residents/businesses from the no-commitment “expression of interest” to a formal “intake” or sign-up process beginning end of this calendar year
- Beginning solar-only and solar + storage installations in early spring 2027

The SEU is participating in A²ZERO Week. On June 2 from 1-2pm, you can watch the SEU be built. We will meet at the Bryant Community Center (3 W. Eden Ct.) and take a walking tour around the neighborhood to see the solar systems that have been installed, watch a live installation, and speak with our installers and battery provider. This event is open to the general public, no registration required.
