Disposable wipes labeling updates

July 3, 2024 - This spring, the Senate Natural Resources and Agriculture Committee unanimously passed legislation (HB 4596) supported by SEMCOG that would require the labels for disposable wipes to clearly state they cannot be flushed down toilets. The legislation is awaiting the Governor’s signature and is in response to the substantial harm disposable wipes do, and at great expense, to plumbing and public sewage infrastructure. ​​
