City of Ann Arbor Interim Chief of Police Named

Archived News Release: October 10, 2023 - ​Effective Saturday, Oct. 21, Deputy Chief Patrick Maguire is expected to assume the role of interim chief of police. According to City of Ann Arbor Administrator Milton Dohoney Jr., he will provide this interim chief recommendation to City Council at the Oct. 16 meeting, and the appointment will then become official.

Maguire has served in the Ann Arbor Police Department since 2000, and has extensive patrol, detective and management experience. He also was a K9 handler. Interim Ann Arbor Police Chief Aimee Metzer's last day with the city is Friday, Oct. 20.

 “The City of Ann Arbor extends our appreciation to Interim Chief Metzer for her decades of service to the Ann Arbor community," said Dohoney. “I want to thank her for her leadership, professionalism and advancing the AAPD during her tenure. We all wish her the best in the next chapter of her safety services career."

A nationwide search continues to fill the permanent police chief role. Further details will be provided when available.    ​
