Archived News Release: November 10, 2014 - (Updated Nov. 11, 2014) On November 9th at approximately 11:45 pm, officers from the Ann Arbor Police Department were dispatched to the 2000 block of Winewood in the City of Ann Arbor for a reported domestic disturbance in progress. Upon arrival, responding officers were confronted by a woman armed with a knife. One responding officer discharged his firearm striking the armed woman.
The woman is identified as Aura Rosser, a 40 year old
Ann Arbor resident. Rosser was pronounced deceased at the scene by responding
medical personnel.
Upon being apprised of the situation, Ann Arbor Police Chief, John Seto, ordered the Michigan State Police to be contacted to conduct an independent investigation. Chief Seto believes this is necessary because the officers involved, the family of the deceased and the Ann Arbor community deserve an objective, unbiased review of the facts surrounding this incident. Chief Seto wants to assure the community that a fair, thorough and impartial investigation is actively being conducted by the Michigan State Police. He has complete confidence in this process and requests patience as the investigation continues.
Detectives from the MSP First District Special Investigation section are actively engaged in the thorough investigation of this incident. This type of request of the MSP is normal so that it ensures an unbiased, fair, and impartial review of the facts surrounding this incident.
Once the facts of the incident are investigated, the case will be presented to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor for review.
