Archived News Release: March 27, 2023 - The City of Ann Arbor is announcing the return of the 10,000 Trees Spring FreeTree Giveaway, with registration now open! This opportunity is available to residents of Washtenaw County and allows up to three free trees per household to take home and plant on their property. Registrants must be available to pick up their free tree on Sunday, April 30, during their selected time slot, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The registration form also asks for pick-up location selection — either Leslie Science & Nature Center (1831 Traver Road, Ann Arbor 48105) or Tappan Middle School (2251 E. Stadium Blvd., Ann Arbor 48104).
All trees will be small, bare root seedlings/saplings that will fit easily inside most vehicles. Registrants will select their tree species upon arrival at the event. Available species will include eastern white pine (Pinus strobus), white oak (Quercus alba), basswood (AKA American linden, Tilia americana), redbud (Cercis canadensis), and white flowering dogwood (Cornus florida). All species will be available at each pick-up location while supplies last. Tree planting and care information will be provided with every tree.
The event is hosted by the City of Ann Arbor Office of Sustainability and Innovations, with special thanks to the Washtenaw County Conservation District for partnering with the 10,000 Trees Initiative to purchase the trees that will be given away.
