Ann Arbor Launches A2ZERO Home Energy Advisor Program

Archived News Release: May 6, 2024 - The City of Ann Arbor has launched the A2ZERO Home Energy Advisor (HEA) program which offers Ann Arbor residents free home energy assessments to evaluate the health, safety and energy efficiency of their homes and explore potential for improvements that will help homes become healthier, greener and more affordable. In addition, the HEA offers residents advice regarding project selection, contractor connections, bid reviews, available rebates, incentives and financing to help fund identified improvements.  Residents can visit a2zerohea.org to complete the program's intake form and indicate interest in receiving an HEA assessment.

The HEA program makes sustainability accessible and actionable for Ann Arbor homeowners and renters. The program was designed to help optimize the homes and living spaces in the city, making them more affordable, comfortable and resilient, and centers the A2ZERO values of equity, sustainability and transformation. The assessments will be offered via online or in-person to meet the needs of each participant. Findings from each assessment will be presented in a custom “Path to Zero" report, which will include a comprehensive set of recommendations to reach a zero-carbon home, as well as tools and resources for completing suggested projects.

“This localized, community approach to providing residents with an energy concierge service is one step toward a brighter and cleaner future for Ann Arbor residents," said Director of the Office of Sustainability and Innovations Missy Stults. The program is offered in partnership with Walker-Miller Energy Services and is approved through 2026. Residents can visit a2zerohea.org for more information and to submit an intake form.

The A2ZERO HEA program is provided by the City of Ann Arbor Office of Sustainability and Innovations, which was founded in 2018 and is guided by the Ann Arbor Carbon Neutrality Plan: A2ZERO. A2ZERO strives toward one unifying vision: Together, creating and implementing a just transition to carbon neutrality, community-wide, by the year 2030. The HEA is one of the actions identified in A2ZERO. Learn more and get involved at www.a2gov.org/sustainability.
