Archived News Release: May 17, 2024 - *UPDATE, 5/23/24: Beam setting at the Gallup Park bridge has been completed ahead of schedule, and both the river and park entrance off Fuller Road are now OPEN. However, the new bridge remains under construction and CLOSED to the public.

The Huron River will be closed to waterway, through-river traffic at the Gallup Park bridge in Ann Arbor Thursday, May 23, *and Friday, May 24, as large cranes set the new bridge beams. All river traffic will be directed to exit prior to the bridge construction site. Construction on the bridge began in February, when a routine inspection identified significant structural issues.

There will be no parking in the main lot adjacent to the Gallup Park livery; instead, parking lots off Geddes Road and at Furstenberg Nature Area will remain open. The Argo-to-Gallup trip will also be unavailable May 23 and *24, however, the Gallup Park Livery will remain open for stillwater boating on both of those days.

The City of Ann Arbor emphasizes that, due to the active construction at the site of the bridge, river users should not linger in the area. The public is advised to follow all signs and buoys directing traffic. River users in tubes are also strongly advised to exit the Huron River before the Gallup Bridge site. There are options for exiting in Furstenberg Nature Area as well as Island Park.

Any updates, if necessary, will be posted on the City of Ann Arbor Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/TheCityOfAnnArbor, and on the city website, https://www.a2gov.org/departments/parks-recreation/parks-places/Pages/Gallup.aspx.

The Gallup Park bridge is anticipated to reopen in fall 2024. For details about the project, visit https://www.a2gov.org/departments/Parks-Recreation/administrative/Pages/Park-Planning.aspx. The city thanks all for their patience during this construction project.
