Archived News Release: December 18, 2020 - There will be no trash or recycling collection services in the city of Ann Arbor on Friday, Dec. 25, due to the Christmas Day holiday as well as Friday, Jan. 1, 2021, for the New Year's Day holiday. Solid waste collections will be delayed one day both weeks, with Friday pickups taking place on Saturday. Please note, trash and recycling collections will occur as normal on Thursdays, Dec. 24, and Dec. 31.
Ann Arbor Municipal Center offices and the 15th District Court will be closed for the holidays on Thursday, Dec. 24, and Friday, Dec. 25, as well as Thursday, Dec. 31, and Friday, Jan. 1, 2021. Safety services and utility operations will maintain 24-hour schedules throughout.
The city encourages residents, businesses and property owners to help their neighbors and community this winter by taking care of snow and ice on sidewalks. Doing so creates a safer and more walkable community for all to travel, exercise and keep safe distances. Christmas trees
It is important to remember that Christmas trees cannot be discarded on the street or be left out on extensions. The City of Ann Arbor provides four free drop-off locations for undecorated Christmas trees from Monday, Dec. 14, 2020, through Monday, Jan. 18, 2021 .
The four park locations will be open for Christmas tree drop offs during normal park hours, 6 a.m.–10 p.m. The collected trees will be chipped on a regular basis at the park sites. The drop-off locations are:
Southeast Area Park located on Ellsworth at Platt. Trees may be left at the dirt lot north of the basketball courts.
West Park parking lot off Chapin near West Huron Street.
Gallup Boat Launch parking lot (not the Gallup Livery) , entrance on the southeast side of Geddes Road, East of Huron Parkway.
Olson Park parkin g lot, 1515 Dhu Varren Road, near Pontiac Trail.

Shop local at the Ann Arbor Farmers Market
Shop local on Wednesday, Dec. 23, at the Ann Arbor Farmers Market, 315 Detroit St., for onsite sales, 7 a.m.–3 p.m. Vendors will have wreaths, greenery, and décor plus apples, apple cider, winter squash, sweet potatoes, carrots, radishes, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, turnips, greens, herbs, meat, eggs, cheese, bread, honey, baked goods, coffee, hot sauce, jam, pasties, Polish food, Mediterranean food, masks, candles, jewelry, textiles, body care products and more.
Preordering from select vendors continues with curbside or walk-in pickup 7 a.m.–noon. For preorders, contact the vendor directly from our directory. We are accepting cash, and tokens for credit cards and SNAP/EBT/P-EBT are available at our market office window. While shopping and picking up preorders, please follow all physical distancing and safety guidelines posted and communicated by market staff. All vendors and market staff are required to wear masks, and masks are required for customers as well.
The last Saturday market before Christmas is Dec. 19 and the Wednesday market ends for the year on Dec. 23. There will be no market on Saturday, Dec. 26, and the winter market hours of 8 a.m.–3 p.m. begin Saturday, Jan. 2.
