Safe Streets for All Grant
Ann Arbor has been awarded a 2022 Safe Streets for All (SS4A) United States Department of Transportation Supplemental Action Planning Grant.
The grant award will fund the following three elements:
- Quick Build projects - expansion of the existing paint and post program
- Speed Management program - the speed management program will use a set of 22 speed management tools based on researched practices. The city will be drawing from these tools when re-designing major streets throughout Ann Arbor. The tools are based on researched practices from top national and state sources.
- Near Miss analytics - utilization of existing Gridsmart cameras to capture data on near miss events that could have caused a crash
The federal grant amount is $3,800,000 with a local match of $950,000 coming from the climate millage.
In the coming months, a resolution will go before City Council, which is required to approve any plans. The total length of the grant is 48 months, which began on Jan. 19, 2024.
