Job Descri​​​pti​on

  • Non-sworn position assisting Police Services personnel and the community.

  • Duties are assigned by supervisory personnel and may entail multiple work assignments.  PSS employees are typically assigned to the Detective Bureau, Special Services, Community Engagement and Patrol (front desk).  Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Front Desk: Interact professionally with the public, answer telephones and provide general information; conduct initial interviews, take and complete written reports; administer preliminary breath tests for court orders; conduct welfare checks on arrestees in security.

  • Special Services: Manage fleet maintenance, including transporting unit vehicles and radios for repairs; complete state and federal firearm background investigations for pistol licensure; fingerprint volunteers/new hires/city employees; fingerprint and photograph arrestees and defendants with court orders (if assigned), or who are brought in by officers.

  • Detective Bureau: Assist with data analysis, domestic violence cases, juvenile runaways and missing persons (as assigned), report review, assist with evidence transport to the lab for forensic analysis; prepare/edit/publish and distribute newsletters

  • Community Engagement: Coordinate with supervisors regarding the Citizens Police Academy and screening, selection, training and use of volunteers; attend community meetings with the community engagement unit, assist unit supervisor and officers as needed.

  • ​Miscellaneous: prepare, edit and publish crime newsletters; disseminate crime information to police officers and public as requested; fingerprint volunteers/new hires/employees/court ordered; perform limited traffic and pedestrian control at special event assignments​.

Minimum Job Qualificatio​ns and Requirements​​​

  • Must be a U.S. citizen and at least 21 years of age.

  • Must have a valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED); associate degree is preferred.

Pay and Benefits​

(Based on current PSS union contract and subject to change per union negotiations.)

  • 2020 starting salary: $23.79/hr ($49,483.20 annually).
