Please see the chart below for information on how to recieve a police report or local criminal history. The records section is responsible for researching and releasing official police records in compliance with city policy, the Freedom of Information Act and the State of Michigan law enforcement records retention schedule. Records also handles registering sex offenders.

For the most efficient service, please contact us by email or phone. If you choose to visit our physical location, please keep in mind that there may be a wait, parking may be difficult to find, and you will need to go through building security which will take additional time.​ We are open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. (excluding holidays).*

Firearm registrations are accepted by appointment only. Appointments are available Tuesday through Thursday 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.-3:30 p.mTo make an appointment or for questions, please contact PSS Chris Briney at 734-794-6954 ext. 49307 or [email protected].

The Ann Arbor Police Department offers 15th District Court ordered fingerprinting ONLY. For all other fingerprinting, contact the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office​. Court-ordered fingerprints are available via walk-in Monday through Thursday 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.-3:30 p.m.​ Required documents to bring: physical copy of court order for fingerprints (request from court before arriving), Felony/Misdemeanor complaint, valid form of identification (driver's license, state ID card, student ID, or passport).​​ If you have questions, please contact PSS Chris Briney at 734-794-6954 ext. 49307 or [email protected].

Crash report that you were involved in.

(If you were not involved in the crash, you will need to submit an online Freedom of Information Act request form.)

Online: Pay & rece​ive online

In person: Bring your photo ID and the $5 fee to the Justice Center, 301 E. Huron, 2nd fl., Ann Arbor, MI 48104. Please contact us first to make sure it is available at [email protected] or 734.794.6954.

By mail: Send all of the below to AAPD Records, Justice Center, 301 E. Huron, 2nd fl., Ann Arbor, MI 48104: a copy of your photo ID, the incident number, the $5 fee, and, if the crash date is within 30-days of your request, you must complete and include this form (pdf).

Police report involving yourself and there are no arrests or other individuals listed in the report. Generally one of the following types of reports:

  • Harassing phone calls.
  • Damaged Property/Vandalism.
  • Private property traffic crash.
  • Larceny/Theft.
  • Lost Property.
  • Accidental/Non Intentional Property Damage.

​Fire Department reports and all other city information should be requested from this link to the City Clerk's Office​  (734.794.6140).

Local Criminal History Certificate on yourself.

This is a notarized certificate stating if you have or have not been arrested by only the Ann Arbor Police Department.

Note, depending on the stipulations of the agency or organization you will submit the certificate to, the certificate may only be valid if you are a current or previous resident of the City of Ann Arbor. You can​ check if you are a resident of the City of Ann Arbor at this link.​

If you need a clearance letter for the State of Michigan you will need to visit the Internet Criminal History Access Tool (ICHAT).

In person: Bring your photo ID and the $10 fee to the AAPD Records, Justice Center, 301 E. Huron, 2nd fl., Ann Arbor, MI 48104.  It may take 10-30 minutes. If it is for an adoption it could take up to five business days.

By mail: Send $10 fee and this completed and notarized form​​ (PDF) to AAPD Records, Justice Center, 301 E. Huron, 2nd fl., Ann Arbor, MI 48104.​ If you would like the certificate mailed outside of the U.S., you are required to also include a prepaid envelope.
